“In Full Bloom” is Long Beach Forward’s annual Springtime fundraiser that brings over 150 neighborhood leaders, changemakers, and social justice advocates together in beloved community for an evening of fun that celebrates grassroots leadership and raises critical funds for Long Beach Forward’s racial, economic, and social justice projects and campaigns. This year, community leaders and partners who have demonstrated their commitment to building community knowledge, leadership, and power with low-income communities of color will be recognized and honored with our inaugural community awards.

In Full Bloom Honorees

Juanita Wilson

Juanita Wilson, founder of MAMA J JACKETS in 2016, epitomizes community-driven compassion. Her dedication to service focuses on providing warmth to children in the Roosevelt Elementary neighborhood. Personally covering expenses for jackets and cleaning services, over 2,000 jackets have been distributed over the past 7 years. Her unwavering commitment makes her a respected figure, not only in Long Beach, but across local boundaries. Ms. Wilson is an inspiring force for change, showcasing the transformative power of community service.

Juanita Wilson, fundadora de MAMA J JACKETS en 2016, personifica la compasión impulsada por la comunidad. Su dedicación al servicio se centra en que todos los niños del vecindario de la Escuela Primaria Roosevelt tengan una chaqueta. Cubriendo personalmente los gastos de chaquetas y servicios de limpieza, se han distribuido más de 2,000 chaquetas en los últimos 7 años. Su compromiso inquebrantable la convierte en una persona respetada, no solo en Long Beach, sino también más allá de los límites locales. La Sra. Wilson es una fuerza inspiradora para el cambio, mostrando el poder transformador del servicio comunitario.

Irma Ferreira

Irma Ferrería, born in Mexico, has been a resident of Long Beach for 30 years, where she has built her beautiful family as a mother and grandmother. Since the pandemic and the passing of her beloved mother, Irma has found community spaces where she received support and forged valuable friendships. Together, they have advocated for the rights of immigrants, tenants, and workers, and have provided food assistance through The Greater Long Beach Mutual Aid Network. Currently, she is a project delegate and leadership team member for Best Start Central Long Beach, and participates in the Neighborhood Leadership Program. Her deep love for Long Beach drives her dedication to creating a just world alongside her community.

Irma Ferrería, nacida en México, es residente de Long Beach desde hace 30 años, donde ha creado su linda familia como madre y abuela. Desde la pandemia y el fallecimiento de su querida madre, Irma encontró espacios comunitarios, donde recibió apoyo y ha creado amistades valiosas. Juntos, han abogado a favor de los derechos de inmigrantes, inquilinos, y trabajadores, y entregaron alimentos a través de Ayuda Mutua de Long Beach. Actualmente, es una delegada en Best Start Central Long Beach, y participa en el Neighborhood Leadership Program. Su profundo amor por Long Beach impulsa su dedicación a crear un mundo justo entre su comunidad.

Khmer Girls In Action

Khmer Girls in Action (KGA) is a community-based organization whose mission is to build a progressive and sustainable Long Beach community that works for racial, gender, and economic justice led by Southeast Asian women and youth. KGA was founded in 1997 by 1.5 and second generation Cambodian youth, and has grown and evolved over the years. KGA has supported numerous statewide and local issues, held wellness and health events, and more. Recently, through the Invest in Youth campaign, KGA helped establish the Long Beach Youth Fund and Youth Power PB Long Beach. To this day, KGA continues to be a political home and a safe, brave space for young people to build power.

Khmer Girls in Action (KGA) es una organización comunitaria cuya misión es construir una comunidad progresista y sostenible en Long Beach que trabaje por la justicia racial, de género y económica liderada por mujeres y jóvenes del sudeste asiático. KGA fue fundada en 1997 por jóvenes camboyanos de “1.5” y segunda generación, y ha crecido y evolucionado a lo largo de los años. KGA ha apoyado numerosos esfuerzos estatales y locales, ha organizado eventos de bienestar y salud, y más. Recientemente, a través de la campaña Invertir en la Juventud, KGA ayudó a establecer el Fondo de la Juventud de Long Beach y el Poder Juvenil PB Long Beach. Hasta el día de hoy, KGA sigue siendo un hogar político y un espacio seguro y valiente para que los jóvenes construyan poder.

  • By Transit: At The Top is located one block north of the Long Beach Transit Gallery, which serves Long Beach Transit routes 1, 21, 22, 23, 46, 51, 61, 71, 72, 81, 91, 92, 93, 94, 96, 111, 112, 172, 173, 174, 181, 182, 191, 192, the Metro Blue/A Line, Torrance Transit, and LADOT.
  • By Car: Parking is available in the nearby Civic Center Parking Garage (332 W. Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90802), City Place C Parking Structure (51 E. 5th St., Long Beach, CA 90802)  with entrances off of 5th street and 3rd street, and City Place A Parking Structure (50 W. 6th St. Long Beach, CA 90802). 
  • PLEASE NOTE: Allow for extra time arriving into Downtown Long Beach and finding parking due to the Grand Prix traffic and street closures south of Ocean Blvd. Streets and roads around At The Top will still be open.
